Variables and Measures
In this research, the dependent variable is represented by food product images. These images include a granola bar, a bag of fruit and vegetables, a bag of popcorn, and a generic packaged snack. Each image displays 2 products of the same shape and size. The independent variable is then manipulated in order to analyze the perceptions of healthiness in the participants; these variables include product wording and design. The intention of this measurement is to see how many of the respondents mention the independent variable in their response for why they chose that product. This will allow for the inference of conscious health choices even when we are not typically presented with two almost-identical products with specific differences in ingredients.
